While I assume most of Las Vegas spent their Valentine’s Day evening on fancy dates with loved ones, I spent my time watching Breathe Carolina at Hard Rock Live with support provided by Mod Sun, Ghost Town, and Lionfight. I must say, it was probably the most entertaining Valentine’s Day I’ve had yet.

The very young-skewing night kicked off with Chicago natives, Lionfight. These guys were a lot of fun to watch and they sounded great live. Playing songs from their self-titled release, I’d be surprised if the band didn’t walk away with a large group of new fans.

Ghost Town brought an electronic-rock feel. The group is currently signed to Fueled By Ramen and they have a solid following, evidence by a sizable portion of the crowd singing along to hits “You’re So Creepy” and “GameFreak.”

As hip-hop artist Mod Sun took the stage, the crowd erupted. Derek Smith describes his style as “hippy hop.” After watching his live performance, I know exactly what he means. With peace signs, tie dye patterns, and the up-beat happy sounding riffs and lyrical content, everything certainly does have a “hippy” feel. It was definitely an entertaining performance for me to photograph. The biggest crowd reaction came with “Stoner Girl” and “Happy As Fu*k,” featuring Pat Brown on the guitar.

The crowd was now primed for a dance party with headliners Breathe Carolina. The band opened with a quick intro and then headed straight into their latest single “Savages,” which was just the beginning of the strobe lit dance party that was to come. Breathe Carolina certainly knows how to put on a show, and fans were excited to preview tracks from their upcoming record Savages, which will be released through Fearless Records April 15th.
