Metal-influenced punks Battle Born celebrated the release of their latest EP Gadget Rangers of Deth last month at the Bunkhouse Saloon with friends and local bands TheCore., Surrounded by Thieves and The Fact Remains in tow to get things started right. As good as the openers were, it was Battle Born’s night and they proved it by tearing through songs new and old that would impress even the most jaded among us.
The whole set was basically a highlight but the guys were at their best when they let their metal flag fly – first with a brain-meltingly technical instrumental part and then an epic cover of Ron “The Mighty RAW” Wasserman’s Power Rangers theme that emphasized the song’s metal nature. Fun fact: Wasserman also wrote the classic theme to the 90s X-Men cartoon, a theme I’d also like to see receive this treatment. I feel like I might have been the only audience member to know all the words to the Power Rangers theme, but the fist-pumps and sing-alongs during the chorus more than made up for it.
