Back in 2003, I caught Fall Out Boy opening for Less Than Jake at the House of Blues and they immediately won me over with their Lifetime-influenced pop punk, catchy hooks and dynamic stage presence. A lot has changed for the band over the past 10 years – they began to incorporate influences from outside the punk and hardcore spectrum, they saw a period of immense pop culture saturation (particularly for bassist and lyricist Pete Wentz) and they took an extended hiatus where the members all dabbled in solo and side projects – but I was excited to be there when they made a triumphant return to Vegas last week, after a 5 year absence. ...

Admittedly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Finch’s What It Is To Burn 10-year anniversary show at the Hard Rock Live (the new name for the Hard Rock Café on the Strip’s third floor music venue). Finch broke through in a huge way with that album, coming at the peak of Drive-Thru Record's pop punk dominance. Finch didn’t fall into that pop punk genre, but they definitely road the Drive-Thru wave to success, touring with label-mates like New Found Glory. But unlike NFG, Finch's mainstream success was mostly limited to their debut album, and they retired from touring over 5 years ago. ...

The Bunkhouse Saloon has been home to hundreds of great punk rock shows over the years (most recently playing host to a weekend of Punk Rock Bowling club shows). With the future direction of the bar uncertain after it was recently sold for 1.4 million to Tony Hsieh’s Downtown Project, we’re happy to have at least one more big punk rock show to look forward to there. ...

The second full day of Punk Rock Bowling was the one I was most looking forward to this year. Headliners Bad Religion are one of the bands that got me into punk, they’re coming off one of their best albums in a while with True North and it’s been about 7 years since I last saw them live. On top of that, I’m a huge Bouncing Souls fan (I do run a blog named after one of their songs) and I never tire of seeing Lagwagon. ...

Memorial Day weekend brought about the return of Punk Rock Bowling, the long-running music festival put on by BYO Records founders Mark and Shawn Stern. The festival has expanded over the years from a single show at the Huntridge or House of Blues to a full on Lollapalooza-sized festival for fans of punk and its various subgenres. ...

Hardcore and punk legends 7Seconds, TSOL and Angry Samoans, along with relative newcomers Stabbed in Back, packed the Las Vegas Country Saloon May 26 with wall to wall eager fans making this one of the first club show to sell out. The quick sellout is a testament to the bands’ legacies, especially considering TSOL was set to play a free pool party the next morning (there’s a group I’d never think of as a water-front party band) and 7Seconds frontman Kevin Seconds played a solo show the night prior. But all those other appearances just can’t beat seeing the bands on a small, intimate stage. ...

During a festival stacked with legendary bands like FLAG, Bad Religion, Devo and 7 Seconds (to name just a few), I was actually most excited for the bowler kickoff show with Lawrence Arms, Nothington and ИO / / / sé. The Lawrence Arms has long been one of my very favorite bands, ever since I first saw them open for Bouncing Souls and Alkaline Trio at Punk Rock Bowling 2002 (sort of, since the show was changed to 21+ last minute so I had to watch through an open door). ...
