Bobby Meader Music has announced today via Facebook that they are changing their name to Stocksmile.
“Today marks a pretty big day for Bobby Meader Music. The music that I [Bobby] created when Bobby Meader Music first started back doesn’t feel anything close to how it does today. The feeling of making music with other creative minds and being able to share so much time with these people has been truly incredible. This month also marks an entire year we’ve been on tour. With this being said, we are changing our name to Stocksmile and will have a new record out under that name later this year. We are so stoked for the future. From the bottom of our hearts, we would each like to thank you all so much for your support over the years. Cheers to the people that attend our shows and to all the friends we have made and will continue to make in the future.”
Those worrying this signals a Valerie’s Family to The Hogan Family loss of frontman, don’t fret – Meader is still leading the band. The rechristening was brought about as a way to incorporate the band’s non-Meader members as well as to signify the band’s change in sound, as Bobby explains: “It’s totally a byproduct of adding new members. Everyone has their own take on it. The record is sounding so good! It’s a much different vibe than any other previous BMM full band stuff. It’s much slower, grungier and got a bit of an emo twist on it. Really digging it.”
The name itself is a reference to one of Meader’s favorite bands and current influences: “‘And I wear a stock smile so well’ is a Pianos Become the Teeth lyric. It always stuck with us, we jam their newest record in the van a lot. I think it has a lot of cool emotion behind it in regards to what a stock smile actually is (smiling even when you don’t want to type thing).”
Fans looking to be able to say “I saw Stocksmile first” are in luck, as the band has about a billion tour dates lined up throughout the summer and fall (see below), though us Vegas fans will have a longer wait: “Unfortunately no local shows just yet. I can’t wait to play one though! We miss everyone so much.”
