Life is Shit Returns to The Dive Bar

The annual celebration of everything shitty is returning for its 12th year to The Dive Bar September 27-28.  Check it out! Las Vegas’s longest-runny music festival,” Life is Shit Festival, will return for its 12th year, Saturday, Sept. 28 at The Dive Bar, 4110 S. Maryland Pkwy. The festival is expanding this year to add the “Shitkicker Kickoff” pre-party, featuring country/blues artists (and country karaoke after the bands), Friday, Sept. 27, at The Dive.  Life is Shit Festival was founded in 2013 by members of the Las Vegas music community, as a free, DIY, locals-centric, punk/rock alternative to the corporate, mainstream Life is Beautiful Festival. However, Life is Shit quickly became a cultural institution of its own, and has been featured by The Washington Post, Las Vegas Weekly, KNPR 88.9 FM’s “State of Nevada,” KUNV 91.5 FM’s “Our Kind of Music,” and other media outlets.  Despite its cheeky name and ...

Images: Flogging Molly, Violent Femmes, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, THICK, October 9, 2021 The Theater at Virgin

If you haven’t been to a show lately, there’s been a ton, and there’s a bunch more this month! Go support the scene.  Last Friday at The Theater (RIP The Joint), Violent Femmes and Flogging Molly co-headlined with special guests Me First and the Gimme Gimmes and THICK.  Which admittedly is kind of a weird mash up… so was the crowd… but as the tour proves, it works.  Since my flight from LAX that day was delayed a million hours (thanks Southwest) I missed THICK, but I heard they killed it in all of their bouncy, jumpy, punky glory.   Me First and the Gimme Gimmes looked amazing in their all white formal attire.  Starting off the night with a cover song… oh wait, I guess they were all cover songs, something that Spike pointed out before and after every song.  But don’t worry, the crowd loved them.  Since the show ...
