As we mentioned in our interview with The Artistic Armory’s Dustin Hoots, running an all-ages venue in Vegas is not easy.
While we’ve been able to enjoy an awesome mix of local and national shows that have included bands like Anchors, Illicitor, Calmosa and Tartar Control, as well as some pretty nifty art – behind the scenes, legal battles with the Armory’s property management have threatened to bring the whole thing down and as of today, the venue is on lockdown.
The Armory was also practice space to locals TheCore. and Unfair Fight, who are now without gear as The Armory’s locks have been changed.
In order to pay legal fees and upgrade their space, a GoFundMe has been started for The Artistic Armory, with a goal of $8,000.
From the GoFundMe:
For the last few months we’ve been fighting legal battles with property management. We are now moving out from under the thumb of our slumlords and into new, better digs. We’re gonna be better than ever, but right now we need your help to stay afloat in this sudden, but awesome transition.
All funds raised will go towards legal fees, as well as defraying our moving expenses and making necessary improvements to our new space so we can surpass anything we have done so far.
Perks for helping fund the project range from high fives, costless shows and, of course, free art. For more info, head over to http://www.gofundme.com/savethearmory
Update: The Armory posted more on the subject on their Facebook yesterday:
To be very clear, we are NOT dying.
Not even close. We are very much alive and fighting!
We are merely ready for MORE and were so excited to have you by our side!
Thank you all very much for your concern but all that is happening is that we’re moving to a bigger and better place for our beloved art and punk scene!
Guys, we’re going to have AC, heat, and functioning bathrooms! We’re freaking giddy.
Update 2: An Armory benefit show has been announced for January 31 at the House of Wonk, with Alaska, Bogtrotter’s Union, The Quitters and more set to play. Details for that show can be found on Facebook.
