With their last show at the Artistic Armory still fresh in my mind, I was so stoked to hear songs from All Dogs’ newly released Kicking Every Day at Beach Hut Deli. This is a band that plays loud and from the heart and I was excited to feel their music just as much as I was to watch their set.
Although I wasn’t able to see every band that night, I’m glad I made it just in time to hear Pleasure. They had a charming, sugary sound and killed it by ending their set with a song by The Cure.
Opening with “How Long,” off their new album, All Dogs set the expectation of a powerful yet delicate sound complete with reflective nostalgia. It was captivating to watch lead singer Maryn Jones croon into the mic while drummer Jesse Wither clashed along on his cymbals. They played some other bangers off their new album including “Sunday Morning,” “That Kind of Girl,” and “Skin.”
When Jones started playing “Buddy” off their self-titled ep, I couldn’t help but compare this show from the one played last year. The audience at Beach Hut was a little more subdued yet captivated which I feel perfectly mirrors this album in its entirety. I fell in love with All Dogs because their grungy, punk vibe was intermingled with candied tones and sweet vocals.
The striking contrast and honesty behind their sound was what made this band so appealing. Listening to them play older tunes at Beach Hut was a treat because they performed with the same intensity that I had remembered but this time it was matured and controlled.
I had to leave right after their set to catch my boyfriend’s band at another venue, but I left Beach Hut completely satisfied with the sets I saw. Pleasure was an appropriate opener for All Dogs and it’ll be exciting to see how this new band progresses through the Vegas music scene. All Dogs’ songs were passionately energetic and performed with an existential calm.
