First band to start off the show was Vegas’ own Not For Sale. They’re made up of several members from other bands in town including Asteroid-M owner Cody Leavitt, and Anti-Vision’s Robbie Malvin. They had great energy, combining ska/reggae elements into their punks songs. Behind them during the full set, a video looped superimposing their logo over black and white Hellcat Records-esque POV footage driving down the streets of Vegas. Maybe they only prepared it for The Space… but it was quite effective at sharing the band’s name and giving them a great backdrop. They definitely got everyone started for a good night.
Next up was “Greenland’s” The Maxies. I’ve always enjoyed seeing the Maxies. They’re always so energetic as they play their silly Ramones-core songs. Like always, mid-set, a polar bear joined everyone to party and dance in the pit. Everyone loves polar bears in the pit. By the end of the night, we saw him getting helped to the band’s van, which might be the best way to end an evening imaginable.
Following The Maxies was Left Alone with their fast ska punk jams that everyone can dance to. Every time these guys come through it’s a treat. Unfortunately, due to a family emergency, the band was performing without bass player Jimmy Jam. However, you might not have even noticed as Pablo Fiasco did a great job filling in the sound and even playing some of the bass parts on keys. My favorite song they played was “Mile High” which always gets the crowd moving.
Finally, five years after their last show in Vegas (was anyone else at the random Korean Church show?) we got Boston legends Big D and the Kids Table. This time they are touring on new record Do Your Art, kicking off their set with 4 energetic songs from it. The set was a good mix of albums including deep cuts like “G.L.D” “Jeremy” “51 Gardner” and “Myself”. They had the room singing along the entire time. Dave is still as animated as ever with so much energy. Ending their main set with fan-favorite “LAX” they barely left the stage before returning with Specials cover “Little Bitch”, and “Noise Complaint”.
TLDR; We saw 4 bands shred a Thursday night, a polar bear get walked to his car, and also got home before midnight.
