The “Parks & Devastation Tour,” featuring Bring Me the Horizon, Chiodos and Survive This!, made its way through Vegas late last month at the House of Blues. I headed over straight from work, missing Survive This! and, due to photo pass issues, I arrived in the venue early into Davison, MI post-hardcore band Chiodos’ set, having to push through the young, energetic crowd to the front. Chiodos played Vegas only a few months earlier at their own headlining gig at the Hard Rock, but the last time I saw them was at Warped Tour last year. They obviously have a dedicated fanbase here, and enthusiasm was high during songs like “Thermacare” and “Ole Fishlips is Dead Now.”
Chiodos’ set was surprisingly short, and next up was British metalcore band Bring Me the Horizon. The untamed crowd roared as soon as frontman Oliver Sykes took to the stage and the band launched into “Shadow Moses” from their latest album Sempiternal. The set featured many of the newer tracks but older songs like “Chelsea Smile” from Suicide Season and “Blessed with a Curse” from There Is a Hell, Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is a Heaven, Let’s Keep It a Secret received the biggest reactions. Honestly, BMTH isn’t really my thing, but there’s no denying that they are consummate performers, really giving the fans 110% energy on the stage.
