Seattle punk invaded the Double Down Saloon on April 12 as locals Deadhand welcomed Success and The Loss to our city.
The Loss was up first, playing a fast, skatepunk-filled set that found vocalist Jacob Bevan using the entire bar as his stage, including the tops of the establishment’s sticky tables. The band was new to most of us in attendance so the biggest response came from their set-ending cover of Millencolin’s “No Cigar,” a track they introduced, as many of us remember, as being from the Tony Hawk: Pro Skater soundtrack.
Success’ brand of Dillinger Four-esq pop punk was up next. I really enjoy the band and their self-titled Death to False Hope-released LP so I was happy to see so many in the crowd responding well to them and even a few singing along. Last summer we filmed an acoustic version of a new Success song “Pros and Cons” so one of the big highlights for me was hearing the full band version for the first time. It sounded great sped up and with a full band backing frontman RevLee Peters and I’m really excited for their next release. Some guitar complications led to a fun cover of Descendents’ “I’m the One” before ending their set with the Batman-themed self-titled record closer “Revolution Schmevolution.”
Closing out the night were our friends in Deadhand, thankfully not arrested for their Disney-terrorizing (and awesome) new music video. They killed it, as always.
