In support of their latest album 8:18, metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada hit the road in late 2013 and made a stop at Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Live. To round out the November 27th show, the tour package included The Ghost Inside, Volumes, and Texas In July.

Luckily I arrived early because shortly after doors opened, the venue filled up fast with concertgoers eager to see their favorite bands in the genre. Texas In July set the tone for a great night and as I watched kid after kid crowd surf to the front, you could see that it was going to be a super long night for security. With very minimal breaks or stage banter between songs, Texas In July sped through their set, ending with crowd favorites “Hook, Line, Sinner” and “Elements.”

LA’s Volumes followed up with a heavy five-song set from Via, with dual vocalists Gus Farias and Michael Barr getting the crowd involved and moving. I personally liked the dynamic that having two main vocalists brought to the performance and it’s easy to see why they have a good following and had people screaming out the lyrics as they powered through the set.

The Ghost Inside got the crowd drenched in sweat as the crowd packed together to sing along. They opened with fan favorite “Engine 45” and kept the pace up with more songs from their records Get What You Give and Returners. Frontman Jonathan Vigil took the time to talk about the personal stories behind some of the band’s songs and the emotion could be felt in the room, especially during “Dark Horse” and “White Light.”

The young crowd erupted as the sample for “Gloom” came over the sound system and the stage was illuminated with green lights for The Devil Wears Prada. Every last bit of energy the crowd had was unleashed and again, security had their hands full catching crowd surfers as they came over the barrier. My favorite songs of the night were “Assistant to the Regional Manager” and “Kansas.” Being solely an instrumental song from Dead Throne, I was very surprised when “Kansas” was played and the crowd ate it up. The group ended the main set with “Danger: Wildman,” and a few minutes after leaving the stage, they returned to play a 2-song encore of “Dead Throne” and “Mammoth.”
