I’ve been waiting for what seems like forever to get a chance to see Buffalo-based indie/punk band Lemuria live, so when it was announced that they were finally making their way to Vegas for a November 19 show at the Royal Resort I could barely contain my excitement. That is, until I realized it was the same day as New Found Glory’s “Pop Punk’s Not Dead” tour.
After a very long day of Denny’s, filming with New Found Glory’s tourmates Man Overboard, more Denny’s, covering the PPND show and even more Denny’s, I made it to the Resort only one song into the trio’s set. The hustle was worth it, because the band is incredible live. Co-frontpeople Alex Kerns and Sheena Ozzella have such polar opposite voices – Kerns has a very disaffected tone while Ozzella can make any lyric sound cheerful – and when they sing together the harmonies are just exquisite.
The turnout didn’t seem too bad, especially considering more than a few NFG fans had lamented the fact they were missing Lemuria (the band’s might not seem similar on the surface, but they’ve toured together and have both released albums on Bridge 9 so that crossover does exit) so hopefully they are able to make it out to Vegas again sooner rather than later.
