Metalheads converged upon the House of Blues Las Vegas April 25 to see Atlanta sludge metal band Mastodon play with Ghost and Opeth.
In my opinion, Opeth plays some of the best progressive rock out there. Their latest CD, Heritage, was heavily represented and I’m happy to say that they sound just as good, if not better, live.
If you haven’t seen Ghost before, they’re basically crazy southern stoner rock, with costumes. I think the crowd wasn’t expecting such an epic opener, and they gained a lot of new fans from the show. They really hold your attention. Plus they totally look like jawas! Check’em out.
As was to be expected, Mastodon’s set consisted mostly of songs from their latest record, The Hunter. They’re always really great about putting on a completely new show every time they come through town. I must say though, I was a bit disappointed that they only played one song from their 2009 release Crack the Skye, but overall, it was a fantastic show.
