Downtown’s Velveteen Rabbit was jam packed on Dec. 6, and for good reason. It was the Mercy Music/No Red Alice Ebony & Irony split EP release show and friends and family came out in droves to celebrate with the men behind the monikers, Brendan Scholz and Sal Giordano.
But before Brendan and Sal took to the stage, we were treated to Echo Park CA’s Bradley Riot. He played Vegas back in September with Divided Heaven at the Dive Bar and once again, he was on point with his excellent gritty voice and damn catchy tunes. I’m hoping he rolls through town again soon.
It’s always a treat to see Sal (of TheCore.) play stripped down as No Red Alice, and as always, he played a great set of tunes which included one of his songs off the just-released split, a TheCore. song, and a fantastic cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire.”
Brendan was the only performer to bring an electric guitar to the party, and I loved it. He played songs spanning his releases with Deadhand and Mercy Music, but nothing from the new split. You’ll have to listen to the split to hear those tunes.
