SRH Fest (sponsored by SRH Clothing) took place at the Hard Rock pool last month, displacing the usual crowd of pretty Rehab people for two nights. We attended the second night, which put the focus on punk rock.
The second night’s events started off with Kottonmouth Kings’ side project X-Pistols. This band features both Kottonmouth frontmen, but in a straightforward punk rock style. Next up were Authority Zero, who put on a great show and made me ashamed to say that I only recognize them for their song “Revolution” from the Rock Against Bush compilation that came out several years ago. I’ll definitely be checking out more from these guys. Third up was Unwritten Law, whose set featured radio-friendly hits like “Teenage Suicide,” and the slower lady-pleasing “Cailin.”
Finally came NOFX on their third Vegas show in eight months. Anyone who has seen NOFX live knows they can be hit-or-miss depending on how much they’ve practiced, and had to drink. This night however, they were definitely on. You could tell there was a bit of nervousness when they first took the stage of a venue known more for Rehab (the debaucherous pool party) than punk shows, but soon thereafter you could see that the band was having a great time on stage. This translated to a good show for the fans, and was definitely one of the best NOFX shows I’ve seen in a while.
