Admittedly not having listened to Unwritten Law much over the course of their 20-year career, I was surprised to instantly recognize many of the songs played at their Nov. 21 show at the Lounge at the Palms. I’d say that’s a pretty good testament to how catchy they are. Their discography-spanning set started off with the hit “Teenage Suicide,” and featured newer songs “Starships and Apocalypse,” “Superbad,” and the super-memorable “Nevermind.” The crowd’s energy was high, especially during older hits “Mean Girl,” “Seein’ Red” and “Cailin.”
Opening the show were local TheCore. members Sal Giordano and Brock Frabbiele playing a really great acoustic set, and Santa Barbara punk rockers Versus The World. Versus the World are touring in support of their latest album Drink. Sing. Live. Love. Set standouts were the Freaks and Geeks quote introduced “The Kids are Fucked,” and “A Love Song for Amsterdam.”
