You’ve probably been hearing a lot recently about how there may be some changes to noise ordinances in the downtown area. If you’re not clear on the details, here’s what’s going on and what you may be able to do to help.
Currently, a six block radius of downtown is exempted from noise ordinances. This radius includes Beauty Bar, Griffin, Insert Coins, and many other great spots that hold events and shows very late into the night/early morning. While it’s understandable that some residents of the area may have complaints about the noise that these shows generate, the area is considered an entertainment district so it seems that a little extra noise goes with the territory.
Well, the Las Vegas City Council recently released a press release stating that they will be holding a meeting tonight to discuss “proposed changes to the city’s noise ordinance.”
Specifically, they’ll be discussing:
- Providing a continuing exemption to the noise ordinance for events that take place in fully enclosed buildings.
- Limiting hours of events that take place outdoors.
- Providing exemptions for special events, but at the same applying conditions to the special use permit relating to noise mitigation.
According to a Facebook event created by Frequency Events co-owners Joe Stasis Borusiewicz and Noal Hendricks, the new proposal calls for a 12 a.m. noise cut off Sunday through Thursday, and a 2 a.m. noise cut off Friday through Saturday.
While the City Council’s press release states that the meeting is open to “businesses, residents, and property owners within the Fremont East Entertainment District (FEED), Borusiewicz and Hendricks are asking everyone to come and show their support to keep the ordinance as it is (non-existent).
The meeting is being held tonight, Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the El Cortez Hotel & Casino, 600 E. Fremont St., inside the Founder’s Room on the second floor.
