Today we’re bringing you a full stream of Breakfast After Noon, the new EP from Las Vegas folk musician Bobby Meader Music. These songs were recorded in Las Vegas with Alex Higgins at Naked City Audio and mastered by Paul Miner at Buzzbomb Sound Labs.
This album marks Meader’s first for Antique Records, a label that found Bobby through social media. “Antique Records saw an Instagram video from my buddy Dan from Sledding With Tigers of me playing a show in San Diego at The Che Café” explains Bobby. “They dug it and emailed me asking if I would ever want to put anything out. I looked at their roster and talked with them a little bit. When James and Craig (of Antique) and I started talking records, and they were talking about bands like Pentimento and Boston hardcore bands, I was super pumped to work with them. Best dudes ever.”
Due to consistent solo touring, many people know Meader as a one-man project. However, Breakfast After Noon, like on previous records, features a bevy of local talent to flesh out the tracks. “Jeremy Tunender played drums on ‘Patti Mayonnaise’ and ‘Six Weeks This June’” says Meader. “My friend Nicholas Alexander Boswell played bass. They literally showed up in the studio the same day we recorded, we jammed for 20 minutes, wrote the parts, and then we recorded.”
That consistent touring has also exposed Meader to a lot of other cities’ local scenes, so which ones are the best and what makes Vegas unique? “There are lots of good scenes out there” explains Bobby. “Fort Wayne, IN, Oklahoma City, Flagstaff, etc. I don’t think the Vegas scene is specifically more unique than others. I think scenes are good when people simply show up to shows because they’re stoked on the bands playing, and even better yet, when they’re stoked on the touring bands coming through. Vegas definitely has that. Can’t ask for anything more.”
Being on the road doesn’t just mean playing shows, though. It also gives one ample time to enjoy breakfast in many places. For the album cover, Bobby and I met at one of his favorite spots, the Black Bear Diner, where he ordered his favorite breakfast dish. “Eggs Benedict with a side of pancakes are my favorite to eat for breakfast,” exclaims Bobby! “I enjoy breakfast and usually wake up late” which is where the album’s title came from.
But is breakfast truly the most important meal of the day? “I can’t say breakfast is the most important meal of the day when dinner is most amazing. Rare steaks and sushi? Come on now!”
