Today we’re bringing you a full stream of pronounced ðə héɪz, the new LP from Tokyo punk-n-roll band The Heiz.
If you like what you hear, you can catch the band live at the pronounced ðə héɪz release show this Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Double Down Saloon. You can also pre-order the album now via SquidHat Records for $15 on limited edition red vinyl.
So how did a band from all the way in Tokyo end up on a label that, up until now, has been entirely Vegas-based? According to guitarist/vocalist Shak Keiji: “Punks meets on Pizza, and we are just each topping. THE HEIZ has been coming to Vegas since 2009, since we supported THE VERMIN and Double Down Saloon. In 2014, [Double Down owner] P. MOSS invited us to his Pizza party, and [Vermin guitarist] Rob Ruckus and [SquidHat founder] Allan Carter were there. Ruckus recommended THE HEIZ to Allan, Allan came out to our show at Double Down, and then we become Squid-Pizza.”
With their love of Vegas and their association with both SquidHat and the Double Down, it only made sense that the release show would happen here: “Vegas people is savior for us” explains Keiji. “When we got tired of Rock’n’roll business in Japan, they gave us big love of Rock’n’roll. Playing in Vegas makes us really feel that Vegas people need, want and love our music. Not because our music is good (we want it to be), but they really love music and entertainment. Very high level audience. Las Vegas is the world’s biggest entertainment city but local musician knows each other well. It’s very interesting. I hope tourists from all over the world will enjoy not only famous entertainment but also talented local music bands too. We think Punks in Vegas will be able to realize that.”
Can’t make the Double Down gig or you’re not yet 21? Don’t fret! The Heiz will also be playing a gig on Sunday, No. 22 with Franks and Deans at 11th Street Records (and hey, 11th Street carries both bands’ albums).
