To celebrate the 20 year anniversary of Red Scare Records, we’ve partnered up with Toby Jeg to interview some of our favorite bands playing Red Scare’s Las Vegas takeover this weekend. Here are 5 questions with Deanna Belos from Sincere Engineer! Catch Sincere Engineer Saturday 9/28 at The Usual Place
I could be wrong, but I think your last show in Vegas was with The Lawrence Arms and Red City Radio? Now you’re back with some of the same characters. What’s been keeping you away, the Sand Worms? Or Shai Hulud, as Nevadans know them.
Lol! I don’t know much about either of those things! But no! I love Vegas. Been there with my family on vacations more times than I can count. I’m not sure why our last few tours never made a stop there, but I would love to bring the full band out there someday soon though! Hopefully next time. Anyway, yes, the last time was with The Lawrence Arms and Red City Radio and it was super fun and I remember that was the show where I had some guitar issues and Chris let me use his acoustic guitar! I’m excited to be back and get to play there again and spend the weekend hangin’ with all my lil’ Red Scare friends!
You just played an RS20 anniversary party in another major entertainment hub: Eau Claire, Wisconsin. How is Vegas gonna compare?
Eau Claire was so much fun lol. I’m sure Vegas will be too! Eau Claire was like a surprising amount of fun, Vegas has an assumed amount of fun. So that’s my comparison. Here’s some others: our chances of finding Bloody Marys at 8am will be way better in Vegas. The Eau Claire trip will probably come out on top for most cheese consumed. The fun show and number of Tequila “shooters” as Toby calls them, will be about the same!
Just curious… has Hopeless Records ever taken you to the Mars Cheese Castle? Yo, it’s NOT a competition, I’m just askin’, yeesh!
Ugh, they haven’t! I’ll get them on the horn.
The Punk Rock Museum already has a Sincere Engineer artifact, so that’s cool. But what else do they need, and why is it something from The Brokedowns?
The Brokedowns should have an entire wing of all the items they’ve used as setlists in the past. Toaster, fire extinguisher, balloon, etc.
So you started out on Red Scare and now it’s 20 years old… have you come to Vegas to finally kill it off? They say there’s a lot of bodies buried out in that desert…
Jimmy Hoffa! I don’t even know who that is but the last time I was in Vegas the cab driver was telling me about him lol. But anyway, no, this is gonna be more like Red Scare’s bachelorette party.
